Former Colorado quarterback and current Cleveland Browns rookie Shedeur Sanders was cited for a fourth-degree misdemeanor after being pulled over for driving 101 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone early Tuesday morning in Strongsville, Ohio.
Apparently, Sanders is still trying to outrun defenders, even if it’s on the freeway at 12:24 a.m.
According to the Strongsville Police Department, Sanders was driving a 2025 Dodge TRX registered in Colorado when he was clocked at more than 40 mph over the speed limit at approximately 12:24 a.m.
He was reportedly traveling with his girlfriend in a separate vehicle, who was also speeding at 92 mph but was let off with a warning. Sanders, on the other hand, admitted to knowing why he was being pulled over and was cooperative throughout the stop.
The traffic violation carries a maximum penalty of a $250 fine. Sanders is scheduled for a court appearance on July 3 unless he pays the fine before then.
Sanders, a fifth-round pick by the Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft, was once considered a potential first-rounder before slipping late amid concerns about leadership and decision-making. While he’s impressed early in minicamp, this incident adds fuel to those lingering doubts.
Even after exiting the Big 12 pipeline, Sanders remains one of the most-watched quarterbacks to emerge from Colorado.
Both highs and scrutiny have marked his trajectory from Boulder to the NFL. With training camp set to begin next month, Sanders will have to prove that his speed and ability on the field, not off of it, define his professional future.
