It’s year two for Steve Lutz as Oklahoma State’s men’s basketball coach and he’s hoping to get this storied program back up to 20 wins or more.
Last year he had to completely rebuild the team after the firing of Mike Boynton Jr. That’s the way it goes in the transfer portal era. Entering this season he doesn’t have much stability returning, but he was able to procure one of the nation’s top scorers in the transfer portal. Will that be enough to turn the program around?
Here is a preview of the 2025-26 season for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
2024-25: 17-18, 7-13 in Big 12, tied for 12th place. Lost in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament to Cincinnati. Reached the quarterfinals of the NIT before losing to North Texas.
Head coach: Steve Lutz is entering his second season. He was previously the head coach at Western Kentucky and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and has a career record of 85-53. He led TAMU-CC to the NCAA Tournament twice and WKU to the NCAA Tournament once.
Big 12 history: Oklahoma State is an original member of the Big 12 Conference. The Cowboys won the Big 12 regular season title in 2004 and won the Big 12 Tournament title in 2004 and 2005. The Cowboys last made the NCAA Tournament in 2021.

Projected Starting Lineup
G Brandon Roy: The Cowboys have their former guard and Green Bay coach, Doug Gottlieb, to thank for Roy transferring from Green Bay.
G Isaiah Coleman: Was one of the Pirates’ top scorers last season, and his Big EAST production will pay off.
G Jaylen Curry: Produced points at UMass.
F Parsa Fallah: The best interior scorer the Cowboys imported this season.
F Robert Jennings II: The one holdover with a legitimate shot at starting.
Starting Lineup Crashers
G Christian Coleman: Should push for playing time and a starting job during fall camp.
G Ryan Crotty: The top recruit on the roster should be given every chance to earn playing time.
Lineup Competition
The Cowboys have plenty of guard depth, which should play well in this conference. A half-dozen guard transfers averaged at least six points per game last year, including Brandon Roy, who was one of the best scorers in the country last year. The Cowboys will build their offense around him, with the ability to supplement him with several guards that can serve as complementary scorers. The hard work will be up front. Fallah is the only notable forward that showed scoring ability last season. OSU will have to develop more depth behind Fallah and Robert Jennings II to be competitive in the Big 12.
Early Prediction
As a team the Cowboys struggled with consistent scoring last season. That should change with the additions in the transfer portal. Roy has the chance to be an All-Big 12 talent. How this team does in Big 12 play will be determined by how much depth OSU can build up front to handle the rigors of conference play. An above .500 season is possible, though an NCAA Tournament berth may be pushing it.
