Kevin Young and the BYU Cougars are hosting 2027 five-star small forward AJ Williams, the No. 5 overall prospect nationally, next month in Provo, Utah, according to 247Sports.
Williams is a must-watch recruit from McDonough, Georgia, who’s watched his recruiting blossom with 29 offers, including scholarships offered by Duke, Arkansas, Auburn and Mississippi State.
At 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds, Williams reclassified to the 2027 class from 2028 in August, which sets him up for a big senior season at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, where he averaged 31.8 points, 12.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game during the 2025-26 season.
Reclassifying gets Williams closer to the college level, which ultimately puts him in a position to declare for the NBA. Like AJ Dybantsa, Williams reclassifying sets up BYU with another target that’s heading to college basketball earlier than later, and he’s one that Young would like to have.
Williams is another prospective three-level scorer for BYU’s 2027 class, and brings arguably the best frame; He’s the fourth small forward the Cougars have offered in that particular class along with Demarcus Henry, Moussa Kamissoko and Malachi Jordan.
