Rancho Bernardo (California) four-star safety Gaige Weddle, a high-profile prospect in the Class of 2028, has secured Big 12 visits to BYU and Utah this season as part of his fall travel schedule.
Weddle will visit Utah this Saturday when the No. 22 Utes host Arkansas at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. The San Diego native returns to Utah for BYU’s long-awaited non-conference showdown with Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Provo. Weddle will make similar Power Four visits to Cal, Miami, UCLA, Oregon and Ohio State this season.
Could we see the Holy War impact this particular recruiting battle? It’s a tad too early in Weddle’s recruitment to tell.
Weddle is the son of former six-time Pro Bowler and San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle, a starting safety at Utah and picked by the Chargers in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Those ties certainly favor the Utes, but Weddle, only a junior, has eyes on him across the country, and if Morgan Scalley wants him, a strong first season as full-time head coach is important.
Utah is a 12.5-point favorite this weekend against Arkansas, with Weddle in attendance for his weekend visit.
