The Baylor Bears tagged Florida quarterback transfer DJ Lagway as “day-to-day” following an ankle sprain he sustained during the Auburn loss last week, but the injury hasn’t dampened the favor of his teammates – much the opposite.
“It just showed his heart,” Bears left guard Nate Kibble told SicEm365. “He tells us before the game, ‘I’m willing to go out there and die for you guys.’ It makes us want to do the same thing. To see him fight like that, I’m really proud of him and just can’t say enough good things about him.”
Kibble is a third-year transfer from Texas, where he redshirted and appeared in just three games in 2025. Kibble was the No. 243 recruit in ESPN’s Class of 2024, and accumulated 40 career pancake blocks at Atascoita High School outside of Houston.
Lagway attempted 54 passes, including a 5-yard touchdown connection with Gavin Freeman with nine seconds left in Baylor’s 17-16 loss to Auburn last week. The Tigers snuffed out the 2-point attempt, but the performance left Dave Aranda’s encouraged about his offseason prep.
RESET GAME ON DECK FOR THE BEARS
Baylor hosts Prairie View A&M on Saturday night to begin its home schedule with an all-too-winnable matchup where the Bears are a 38.5-point favorite as of Thursday.
Panthers quarterback Tevin Carter completed 16 passes for 217 yards and four touchdowns in leading Prairie View over Texas Southern 52-14 last week for their first regular-season win. The Memphis, Tennessee, native threw for over 300 yards in their 49-30 opening loss at Tarleton State.
If not Lagway, the third-year Bears quarterback Nate Bennett is the likely No. 2, previously the backup to Sawyer Robinson and a seasoned returner to the room with Big 12 experience against UCF, Oklahoma State and Kansas.
