This week brings a strong slate of Big 12 football, including three distinctive tests against the SEC.
It also includes the first conference contest of the season with Arizona traveling to No. 15 BYU on Saturday. That particular ticket is just $79 as of Thursday afternoon. The CyHawk matchup between Jimmy Rogers’ Iowa State Cyclones and the No. 21 Iowa Hawkeyes is up to $167 for a single-game ticket. So, where are those nonconference deals you’re looking for?
Here are three budget Big 12 contests this week that, hopefully, won’t put you to sleep.
Washington State at Kansas State ($22)
It’s the first true test for the Kansas State Wildcats this weekend as Washington State, a team that gave No. 19 Washington some trouble early in a 24-10 loss last weekend, comes to Manhattan in search of an upset. Collin Klein is looking for a 2-0 start after handing down a 71-3 win over Nicholls last weekend. Avery Johnson threw for just shy of 200 yards and three touchdowns, and his arm will be on display again Saturday morning when the Cougars roll in.
Arizona State at No. 10 Texas A&M ($47)
It’s a bit of a road trip if you’re a Sun Devil, but nevertheless, Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State are getting a true SEC test one week before traveling to London for a Big 12 matchup with Kansas (hosting Missouri this weekend). It’s a tall task toppling Mike Elko and a seasoned senior quarterback, Marcel Reed, but it’s another angle at the Big 12 vs. SEC this weekend and for under $50.
No. 6 Oregon at Oklahoma State ($38)
After the Tulsa loss, Eric Morris and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are up against the wall with the Fighting Ducks rolling into Stillwater on Saturday morning. Oregon quarterback Dante Moore goes toe-to-toe with Drew Mestemaker, who completed 29 of 49 attempts for 241 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in his Cowboy debut. Koi Perich tallied 11 tackles for Oregon in a 34-27 home win over Boise State, and he’ll surely be troublesome in the secondary again this week at Oklahoma State.
