Oklahoma State’s offensive line took a significant blow on Tuesday, as head coach Eric Morris confirmed starting left tackle Jacob Sexton will miss the remainder of the 2026 season with a leg injury.
Sexton suffered the injury just six plays into the Cowboys’ stunning 24-10 loss to Tulsa on Saturday. He was carted off the field, and the outlook immediately appeared concerning. Morris made the season-ending diagnosis official on Tuesday.
Now Oklahoma State has to figure out how to replace one of the most experienced players on an offensive line that already struggled mightily in Week 1.
Following Sexton’s injury, Desmond Magiya and Shaun Torgeson both saw action at left tackle. Magiya played 64 snaps, all at left tackle, while Torgeson played 21 snaps on the left side in addition to 48 at right tackle. Morris indicated the competition will continue this week.
“Whoever practices the best this week,” Morris said when asked how the tackle situation would be decided. “So, we’ll see who gives us the best chance to win.”
The Cowboys could eventually get another option in North Texas transfer Braydon Nelson, who played extensively at left tackle under Morris the past two seasons. However, Nelson missed fall camp with an injury and has only recently returned to offensive line drills.
Sexton’s absence is especially concerning after Oklahoma State struggled to protect quarterback Drew Mestemaker against Tulsa. The Cowboys also failed to convert four fourth-and-short opportunities as part of an afternoon in which they committed four turnovers and scored just 10 points.
And the timing couldn’t be much worse.
Oklahoma State now returns home to face No. 2 Oregon on Saturday, meaning Morris and his staff have only a few days to settle on a new combination up front before facing one of the nation’s best teams.
