Welcome to Tuesday Takes, where I give you four takes from the Big 12. It was a jam-packed week full of exciting news, but several things caught my attention over the last few days.
Brendan Sorsby Will Not Play This Season
Unless you live under a rock, by now you have heard the story that has headlined the college football world. Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is currently under investigation by the NCAA for gambling.
Normally, I would give him a chance; however, Sorsby placed wagers on his own school back when he was at Indiana, which is a big no-no. It’s crazy to me that this is just coming out now after his big payday at Texas Tech, but I am not surprised that it finally came out.
He has hired an attorney to try to regain eligibility, but I don’t think that will do much because the NCAA doesn’t play around when it comes to players betting on their own school. And it’s not like it was a $100 dollar bet, it was thousands over a period of time. As much as I hate to say it, I don’t see a world where Brendan Sorsby is playing college football in 2026.
Kansas Will Host A Regional
Last week, I came on here and said that Kansas will win the Big 12 regular-season baseball title. And after sweeping Arizona this past weekend, Kansas is now on a ten-game win streak and is 20-4 in conference action.
There’s no doubt that they will win the Big 12 with a four-game lead and just six games in conference play remaining. But as of now, they are projected to be a regional host for the first time in school history.
Of course, a lot can change in just a couple of weeks, but not for this team. If anything, they are trending up and could easily find themselves inside the top ten. But for now, they are a lock to host a regional in Lawrence.
Kansas Will Be Back
It’s a Kansas double-up today, but this has nothing to do with baseball. Last week, the men’s basketball team was able to land the number one player in the country, Tyran Stokes.
That alone is enough to excite anyone, and of course, Stokes will likely start from day one and be an impact player. But when you throw him in with Tay Kinney, who is also a top 20 player, it makes things very interesting in Lawrence.
There’s plenty of speculation that this will be Bill Self’s last season at Kansas, but when you look at what the Jayhawks have brought in and done, it feels like this could be the year where Kansas basketball gets back on track and makes another deep NCAA tournament run.
Texas Tech Will Win the Big 12 Tournament
The Big 12 softball regular season wrapped up this past weekend, and now it’s time for the conference tournament to get underway in Oklahoma City. The Red Raiders have been the most dominant team not just in the conference, but perhaps in the entire county.
After a series win against Baylor last weekend, Tech finished with an impressive 21-3 record and locked up a one seed for the conference tournament. While Oklahoma State and Arizona could challenge them, I don’t see anyone else knocking Tech off this weekend. In fact, I don’t think anyone will, and Texas Tech will win the regular-season and conference tournament titles as well.
