It’s certainly not the shiniest game of the Big 12 Conference‘s Week 2 calendar, and TCU‘s FCS opponent, Grambling State, didn’t shy away from a question regarding the value of Saturday’s game in Fort Worth, Texas.
Former Nebraska assistant and interim head coach Mickey Joseph, who became the head coach of the Tigers in 2024, made it simple when asked about the Horned Frogs and what his team hopes to get out of its Power Four test this weekend.
The Tigers have won just 26 regular-season games in our current decade, but among Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Grambling State holds 15 Black national football championships, tied for the second-most titles in HBCU history. Grambling State begins the season 2-0 with high-scoring wins over Central State and Clark Atlanta.
Hiring Joseph in 2024, Grambling State gave Joseph his first true head coaching position since replacing Scott Frost at Nebraska during the 2022 season. That same year, Joseph was arrested for third-degree assault involving his wife; Those charges were later dropped.
This weekend, TCU is a 43.5-point favorite against Grambling State in search of its first win of the regular season. The Horned Frogs are reeling from a 15-10 loss to Bill Belichick and North Carolina in Dublin two weeks ago. In his debut, Harvard transfer Jaden Craig, now the Frogs’ starter, finished just 20-for-32 in the pocket for 175 yards through the air.
