Watch: Deion Sanders Calls Out WR Trainers For Not Calling His Team During the Offseason

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes aren’t too happy with some of the receiver training they’ve received.

In a clip shared by DNVR reporter Scott Procter, Sanders, without dropping any particular names, voices his discontent with the myriad of personal trainers who don’t contact his program before spending the offseason working out with his receiver corps.

Through three games, Colorado starting quarterback Julian Lewis is completing 63.3% of his passes – Joseph Williams leads the WR group with 11 receptions for 234 yards – with the receiver unit combining for 690 yards through the team’s 2-1 start. Lewis completed 19 passes for 168 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions last week in a 41-7 loss at Northwestern.

Sanders has a somewhat solid argument here. The receiver spot includes some familiarity with returners Joseph Williams and DeKalon Taylor getting some targets through these first few games, but transfer additions Kam Perry and Danny Scudero have been hampered by injuries since fall camp. Colorado needs a healthy receiver to step up.

The Buffaloes travel to Baylor this weekend, as DJ Lagway is expected to return for the Bears on Saturday. Baylor is a 9.5-point favorite entering the matchup following back-to-back wins over Prairie View A&M and Louisiana Tech. Lagway endured an ankle injury during the Auburn season-opener loss but is set to relieve backup Nate Bennett this weekend.

For Colorado, this weekend serves up Sanders’ first true road test of the Big 12 season. Lagway, even in recovery, should stress the Buffaloes’ defense no doubt, but whether Lewis and Colorado can bounce back offensively after a major setback is the question in this contest. If not, it’s an all-to-win opportunity for Baylor this weekend in front of a home crowd in Waco.
