Darrion Williams is eligible for Texas Tech men’s basketball this season – for now.
On Friday, the NCAA officially filed a “Notice of Appearance” following a temporary injunction by a judge in McLennan County, Texas, in September granting Williams immediate eligibility for the 2026-27 season.
Williams, a fifth-year senior who started his career at Nevada and later transferred to Texas Tech, is back on the Red Raiders’ team roster after spending the 2025-26 season at N.C. State. The Sacramento, California, native logged 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game last year for the Wolfpack.
All four justices within the appeals court are Texas Tech graduates.

An appeal by the NCAA to reverse the Texas judge’s decision will be heard by the 7th Court of Appeals in Amarillo, according to the Friday report by Scarlet and Black Insider. No hearing date is set; Texas Tech opens the season Nov. 2 vs. Jackson State.
Should Williams see his eligibility reversed, the Red Raiders will have a hole to fill in their starting five. Returning junior Josiah Moseley, transferring to Texas Tech from Villanova last year, is the most experienced forward ahead of freshmen Bassala Bagayoko, a former professional for Bilbao Basket in Spain (Liga ACB) and Trey Hall, a former three-star, in-state recruit with 547 career points, 341 rebounds and 73 blocks at North Crowley High School.
