Spring football is underway across much of the Big 12 Conference, including the TCU Horned Frogs.
One of the most-watched positions at TCU is the quarterback position, where Max Duggan goes into his third-year as starter, but some wonder if he’s the guy who can take TCU’s offense to the level it needs to get to to compete for a Big 12 title.
For those hoping for some competition, TCU landed Oklahoma transfer Chandler Morris. Morris has been buried on the OU quarterback depth chart since he joined the program in the Class of 2020. He was a three-star prospect who came in as the No. 18 dual-threat quarterback in the class, according to 247Sports.
But now, according to Gary Patterson to 247Sports, it’s unclear if or when Morris will get to TCU, saying, “We don’t know yet on Chandler, it looks like rules are going to change here real quickly. He still hasn’t been released by Oklahoma.”
On Monday, several players used the hashtag #FreeCM4, with running back Darwin Barlow and wide receiver Blair Conwright leading the way.
But despite all of this, there doesn’t appear to be any quarterback battle at this moment, with Gary Patterson saying, about Duggan, “He’s our guy right now.”
And while we don’t have a ton of details around why this transfer might be slow, and if Morris is even eligible to play in 2021, OU did briefly try to block former QB Austin Kendall from transferring to West Virginia a couple of years ago, that looked bad at the moment. But OU did eventually back off.
So now we all wait to see how this plays out.
Morris appeared in five games for Oklahoma as a true freshman in 2020, completing 3 of 5 passes for 39 yards while rushing for 44 yards and two touchdowns on five carries.
