De’Vion Harmon Declares Intention to Enter NBA Draft

NCAA Basketball: Kansas at Oklahoma

Oklahoma guard De’Vion Harmon declared his intention to enter the NBA Draft, per an announcement on his Twitter feed on Friday.

Harmon’s announcement came just a few hours after his head coach, Lon Kruger, had his formal press conference to announce his retirement from coaching.

Harmon, who missed the NCAA Tournament due to COVID-19 protocols, was a big part of the Sooners’ run to the NCAA Tournament this season, which ended with a second-round loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Harmon provided no context for his decision on Twitter.

He is the third Big 12 underclassmen to submit his name to the NBA Draft this week. West Virginia’s Sean McNeil announced he was doing so, but left the door open to return to Morgantown.

Texas forward Kai Jones announced his decision, and made it clear he was hiring and agent and wouldn’t be returning to Austin.

If Harmon doesn’t hire an agent, he could, potentially, return to the Sooners.

Harmon made significant strides in his game from his freshman year to his sophomore year. This season Harmon averaged 12.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for the Sooners, who finished 16-11 overall. As a true freshman, Harmon averaged 7.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.

Harmon was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention after the season.

Coming out of Guyer High School in Denton, Texas, Harmon was considered a four-star recruit by ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports, and one of the top 50 players nationally in the class of 2019. He was also considered a top-five point guard in his class by 247Sports and top-10 at his position by Rivals.
