Iowa State Defensive Back Anthony Johnson Declares for 2023 NFL Draft

NCAA Football: Fiesta Bowl-Oregon vs Iowa State

Senior defensive back Anthony Johnson announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he is declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. The veteran DB has been a cornerstone of Iowa State’s prolific defense for the past four seasons and is now setting his sights on taking his game to the next level.

Here’s the post he shared on Twitter.

Johnson’s stats from his senior year included 60 total tackles (41 SOLO, 19 AST), a forced fumble, two interceptions, and four passes defended. Johnson’s game is one that has the potential to translate to an NFL defense in a seamless fashion. The six foot 200-pound prospect plays with confidence, quick feet, and fluid motion in coverage.

Matt Campbell’s squad is losing one of their best players on the defensive side of the ball whereas Johnson has compiled 40 or more total tackles in each of his last four seasons in Ames. Johnson looks to join the list of Iowa State players to make the jump to the NFL joining last year’s class of Breece Hall (RND 2 – PICK 35), Eiyoma Uwazurike (RND 4 – PICK 115), Charlie Kolar (RND 4 – PICK 127), and Brock Purdy (RND 7 – PICK 262).

Johnson delivered a heartfelt message to his teammates, coaches, and to the fans of Iowa State saying that he will have ‘Cardinal and Gold forever in his soul.’
