While the 2024 college football season is still the better part of seven months away, football players from the Sunflower State got into it on social media following Kansas State‘s 75-70 win over Kansas in basketball.
Kansas cornerback Cobee Bryant took to X on Monday night to mention that Kansas will “Handle them in football,” which prompted a funny response from Kansas State’s new starting quarterback.
Bryant released a tweet that read, “We will handle them in football this year that’s a promise.” Shortly after posting, Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson quote tweeted the message with multiple crying laughing face emojis in response to Bryant’s promise.
While Bryant and Johnson will officially square off in Manhattan on October 26th on the football field, it was Jerome Tang and the Wildcats basketball team that got the last laugh on Monday. Kansas State defeated their in-state rivals 75-70 on Monday night thanks to stellar performances from the likes of Tylor Perry and Cam Carter. The duo combined for a total of 45 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, and three steals en route to the team’s second-straight win over the Jayhawks in Bramlage Coliseum.
While the Big 12 Conference is known for some incredible rivalries across college athletics, moments like the back-and-forth between Johnson and Bryant continue to cement the Sunflower Showdown as one of the nation’s best.
