With Week 9 of the college football season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced five players that would be taking home the ninth iteration of the Big 12 Football Weekly Awards for the 2024 season.
Colorado’s Travis Hunter took home the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Baylor’s Matt Jones earned DPOW honors, Colorado’s Isaiah Augustave took home Newcomer of the Week, and Kansas State’s Chris Tennant split the title of Special Teams Player of the Week with BYU’s Will Ferrin.
Two Buffaloes took home Player of the Week honors in Week 9, with Travis Hunter and Isaiah Augustave lighting up the box score. Hunter posted another incredible performance with 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air, while Augustave found success on the ground. Baylor linebacker Matt Jones earned the honor of DPOW on Monday following a big victory over Oklahoma State. The senior linebacker recorded 12 total tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble. Jones’ performance helped pave the way for the Bears to earn their second-straight win in conference play.
Two big-time special teams performances worked their way into the Week 9 awards, with a pair of kickers earning the honor. Kansas State’s Chris Tennant went 2-2 vs. in-state rival Kansas, including his season-long, 51-yard game-winner for the Wildcats. Splitting the honor with Tennant was BYU’s junior kicker Will Ferrin, who converted 3-3 field goals with 13 kicking points on the day vs. UCF.
