As we approach the final month of the 2024 college football season, we’ve seen a lot of chaos around the country — and some of the biggest storylines have come out of the conferences not named the SEC and Big Ten.
In the ACC, Miami is looking like a legit contender with Cam Ward, Clemson’s offense has found itself in Year 2 under Garrett Riley, SMU is 7-1 and undefeated in ACC play, and the Pitt Panthers are 7-0.
Meanwhile, the BYU Cougars are 8-0 and looking like one of the best teams in the country, as is Iowa State, who is 7-0. Kansas State is 7-1 on the season and is emerging as one of the more dangerous offenses in the league with Avery Johnson and DJ Giddens. Oh, and who could forget Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes, who are out to 6-2 already?
Nobody is arguing that either one of these conferences can stand toe-to-toe with the Big Ten or SEC — there’s a reason why those two leagues are making all of the money.
The argument between which of these two leagues is superior should be closely contested, right? Well, not if you ask the folks on the Unnecessary Roughness Podcast, a college football podcast from Barstool Sports.
Brandon Walker, host of the show, asked his group who the better conference is in 2024, and the answer was unanimous.
Walker made it quite clear where he stands on the argument, too, taking the ACC and saying that it’s by a “wide margin.”
“I’m going to say it’s the ACC, and it’s the ACC by a wide margin,” Walker says. “I think the ACC is just as exciting as the Big 12. What’s so exciting about the Big 12 having 14 average teams just slap fighting each other every week?”
