Big 12 media days got off to a banging start on Tuesday in Frisco, Texas, and the fireworks were off a running courtesy of Texas Tech media personality Sean Dillon.
Dillon asked about what he perceived as unfair treatment of the Red Raiders from tortilla tossing to the Brendan Sorsby situation. Brett Yormark then proceeded to ask Dillon to “stand up” and re-ask his question. Yormark responded in a terse manner, saying that he was being misquoted and that the Big 12 was going forward as, “16 strong.”
Here’s what it looked like.
Yormark clearly didn’t like the question as he tries to get the Big 12 back on track and distance the league from the Texas Tech and Brendan Sorsby controversy of recent months. I can’t blame him. But on the other side, Tech fans do feel like they have been slighted by the league office in different ways, be it tortillas or the Sorsby situation. This feels like a moment where all sides need to come to the table, calm down, and realize they’re better off moving forward together. That’s the best case scenario for everyone involved.
Yormark was clear that he does not want to make this week about Brendan Sorsby, but rather celebrating the 16 programs as we get set to kick off the 2026 college football season in a few weeks. It’s going to be hard to do that, but that was clearly the decision that was made by the commissioner and the league office.
I would have probably had some statement prepared, because avoiding these situations can often times make them drag on even further. However, Yormark, has chosen a different path. It remains to be seen which one ends up working the best.
