Kansas State is getting an early start on its 2028 recruiting class by keeping one of the state’s top young prospects home.
Taylen Washington, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker from Derby, Kansas, announced his commitment to Kansas State, giving the Wildcats their first commitment in the 2028 class. He is currently unranked by 247Sports as an Athlete, listed at 6’3”, 195 pounds.
Washington announced his decision on social media, writing, “Blessed is a understatement 💜 #Emaw.”
The Derby standout is regarded as one of the top prospects in Kansas for the 2028 recruiting cycle and gives K-State an early building block for a class that is still nearly two years away from signing.
Kansas State has been involved with Washington from the beginning. The Wildcats were the first program to offer him a scholarship, getting in early on an athletic defender who has the versatility to potentially play multiple positions at the college level. Washington has primarily been recruited as a linebacker, although his size and athleticism could give K-State options for how to use him once he arrives in Manhattan.
The commitment is also another win for Kansas State’s efforts to keep the best players in its own backyard. Derby has traditionally produced plenty of college football talent, and Washington now becomes the latest in-state prospect to choose the Wildcats.
There’s obviously a long way to go before the 2028 class reaches signing day, but Kansas State now has its first piece in place, and it’s one of the top young prospects in Kansas.
