Big 12 Off to Hot Start For 2022 Recruiting Class

If you are a recruiting junkie, then you are probably watching your favorite team’s every move like a hawk. From offers going out, to tweets, you name it, someone is watching. Of course, if you look at the big picture you will find some familiar schools at the top. Ohio State, LSU, Georgia along with Big 12 schools such as Texas and Oklahoma. However, if you take a closer look you will see that there are two Big 12 schools in the Top 5 and three in the top ten.
According to 247 Sports, Texas and Oklahoma are in the Top 5, and Oklahoma State is sitting in the top ten of the 2022 college football recruiting class rankings. I know it is just the beginning of March and we are still light years away from the 2022 class actually signing, but it still is impressive at the moment.
Until pen meets paper, all we can do is sit back and watch everything unfold. Sure, some things will change as teams move up and down the rankings but let’s enjoy it while we can.
The Texas Longhorns are currently sitting with a top five class as of now. With a total of seven commits, five of those players are ranked as four-star prospects and their class also includes five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy.
Meanwhile Oklahoma has seven players committed in their 2022 class with three four-star prospects and two five-star ones with wide receiver Luther Burden and running back Raleek Brown. Yeah, I know what you are thinking, Oklahoma is getting even more weapons on offense. Well, of course because that is what Lincoln Riley does.
Also on Tuesday, OU added its first offensive lineman to the class in Demetrius Hunter, a three-star player by 247Sports, and a four-star by Rivals.
However, the most surprising out of all these Big 12 teams is Oklahoma State. It is rare that the Cowboys ever break the top 30 and here they currently sit at number ten in the country. Normally, their class isn’t stocked piled with four-star talent, but it is a good sign to see two-four-star prospects with athlete CJ Brown and running back Ollie Gordon on board this early in the cycle. And don’t forget that the Cowboys got a great late 2021 addition with safety Kendal Daniels, who is a top 100 player nationally for the 2021 class.
I don’t want to get too ahead of myself here but if you go down the team ranking list, Baylor sits at the 21 spot as well. So, if you think about it, the Big 12 has nearly half the conference in the top 25 right now. Hopefully, this will stick when the 2022 cycle is over but so far, it has been smooth sailing for several Big 12 schools.
