Kansas State Given 67% Odds of Making 12-Team College Football Playoff
For the first time in sports betting history, we have odds on which teams will make the expanded 12-team playoff, which is set to conclude the 2024 college football season.
The 12-team playoff will consist of four rounds, with the 5-12 seeds opening up the action at home sites and the top four seeds receiving byes for the first round. Then, winners from the first round will move on to play the top four seeds at traditional New Year’s Six bowl sites.
From that point, the Playoff will function as the current model does, with two NY6 sites hosting semifinals, and then a National Championship Game set at a neutral site.
With the five highest-ranked conference champions receiving an auto-bid, the Big 12 is guaranteed at least one team in the playoff. According to BetOnline, the team with the best odds to represent the Big 12 is Kansas State.
The Wildcats have 1/2 odds (-200), or 66.67% chance of making the Playoff, giving them the seventh-best odds in the nation.
Chris Klieman and company will have to replace several key pieces from last year’s team, including several starters from the offensive line, but Avery Johnson and D.J. Giddens gives the Cats one of the best QB/RB duos in the Big 12.
The Wildcats do have the luxury of what appears to be a forgiving schedule, as they’ll face just three teams that appear in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25: Arizona, Oklahoma State, and Kansas. Even better, the game against Arizona won’t count as a Big 12 contest, as it’s being played as a pre-existing nonconference game.
K-State will open up the 2024 season against UT-Martin on Saturday, August 31 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
