It finally happened. Iowa State star quarterback Rocco Becht announced that he will be heading to Penn State to team up with his former head coach, Matt Campbell.
Becht is the latest in a long run of former Cyclones headed east, and by now, Happy Valley’s starting to look like Jack Trice East. In the last 24 hours, Cyclone fans have seen Becht, Ben Brahmer, Marcus Neal, and a few others take official visits and commit to Penn State.
Becht, a 6-foot-1 signal caller from Wesley Chapel, Florida, arrived in Ames as a member of the 2022 class and sat behind Hunter Dekkers for a year, who was suspended for sports betting. Becht took the field as a redshirt freshman and never looked back, posting 9,274 yards through the air with a career touchdown-to-interception ratio of 64-27. He also found the end zone 19 times on the ground and is responsible for 25 wins.
For Penn State, this is a great move. The Nittany Lions were in need of a quarterback, and they got one of the best ones available. Becht is listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index as well as the 25th-best player available in the portal, and the eighth-ranked quarterback.
Unfortunately, he’s not the only former Cyclone signal caller headed to Penn State, as just a few minutes after the Becht news dropped, Alex Manske elected to follow Becht’s blueprint and commit to Penn State as well. He committed to Iowa State in the Class of 2025 as an Elite 11 Top 300 prospect.
It’s never easy to see players depart your program, and if you’re an Iowa State fan, it’s been a little extra rough. With Becht now official, at least the biggest domino has already fallen.
