Houston’s 2024-25 basketball prospects got a big lift on Monday when J’Wan Roberts announced his plans to return for another season with the Cougars.

Roberts shared the news on his social media.

Roberts has one year remaining from the COVID eligibility year that all student-athletes received who were in college when the pandemic shut down college athletics for a few months.

Roberts had his best season in 2022-23 when he averaged over 10 points and nearly eight rebounds per game for the Cougars. This past season, he spent time dealing with a lingering knee injury, which prompted head coach Kelvin Sampson to mention that Roberts was getting fluid drained from his knee every 2-3 weeks and would likely need a knee scope after the season. Roberts averaged 9.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the Cougars in 2023-24.

Houston is making a push through it’s NIL Collective LinkingCoogs to get as many as four of its five starters back from its 32-5 team. The Cougars just wrapped up their first season in the Big 12 Conference, after moving from the AAC, and wen on to win the conference’s regular season title and reached the Sweet 16, where it lost to Duke 54-51.
