Even though we are just six weeks into the college football season, that doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead to the future. There is still a lot of season left ahead of us, but it is never too early to start thinking about the postseason.
Jerry Palm from CBS Sports recently released his latest college football bowl projections. It is always interesting to see how things change from week to week but here is what he currently has listed for the Big 12.
Fiesta Bowl
Utah vs. First-Round Winner
Sorry Jerry, I just don’t see how Utah is the favorite to get a first round bye at this time. Do we even know the status of Cam Rising? Because without him, Utah may not even get into Arlington.
CFP First-Round
Iowa State vs. Penn State
Jerry has the Cyclones hosting the Nittany Lions which would be an epic matchup. Ames would be rocking for this one but there is a good chance the Cyclones could have a first round bye since they are the favorites to win the conference right now.
Texas Bowl
Oklahoma State vs. LSU
I’m sorry, but with the way Oklahoma State is playing right now, there is a zero percent chance they are going to get to a bowl of this caliber. The Cowboys will be a fringe bowl team, and if they play LSU, they will get hammered.
Alamo Bowl
Kansas State vs. USC
Lincoln Riley going against Kansas State? I can already smell the excuses from here. Kansas State was Riley’s kryptonite during his time in Oklahoma, and I would love nothing more than for these two to meet once again.
Pop-Tarts Bowl
BYU vs. Notre Dame
BYU/Utah may be known as the Holy War but this is the second closest thing to it. Plus, it would be two national brands playing one another in perhaps the most entertaining bowl game of all time.
Las Vegas Bowl
Arizona vs. Oklahoma
A rematch of last year’s Alamo Bowl, and how ironic is it that both teams are in new conferences this year? Roll the dice, and let’s see what happens!
Liberty Bowl
Texas Tech vs. Arkansas
I absolutely love this matchup because it’s a classic rivalry that goes back to the 1950s. Unfortunately, these two have only played twice since 1991 due to Arkansas moving to the SEC. But don’t be shocked to see Texas Tech in a better bowl game than this.
Armed Forces Bowl
West Virginia vs. Tulane
Tulane is a quality opponent but let’s face it, nobody really wants to play a group of five team in a bowl game. Hopefully West Virginia can play their way to a better game.
Guaranteed Rate Bowl
TCU vs. Rutgers
Are we sure TCU will make a bowl game at this point? Six games left on their schedule, and I am not sure if see three more wins on it. Missing out on another bowl game would put Sonny Dykes on the hot seat going into 2025.
